The Compassion of Christ

Mathew 14

Peter Gets Out of the BoatIn Matthew 14, we hear how Jesus finds out about the death of John the Baptist and has to take a second to get away and be by himself. Jesus knows what its like to lose people. He understand the pain. When he comes back, he is greeted with a crowd. He doesn't turn them away, but instead feeds them. He pulls off one of those AMAZING miracles that we read about and joust gloss over. 5000 PEOPLE is A LOT of people, and they had feed left over. It made for a long day, I'm sure. He hangs back and lets his friends go ahead as he needs to pray. Later he walks on water. He just fed 5000 people with next to nothing, and his disciples are amazed. Peter asks him to call him. Jesus tells him to come and in faith Peter gets out of the boat. But the wind distracts him and he starts to sink. Jesus takes action and grabs him and saves him and they get back in the boat.

Here again, Jesus has compassion. He doesn't lose his temper. I don't know that I could do that on such a bad day.

Proverbs 14

3 A fool’s mouth lashes out with pride,
but the lips of the wise protect them.

29 Whoever is patient has great understanding,
but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.
